The reason we do what we do, is so that we can to do what we want to do, when we want to do it!

It’s a tongue twister, but working as a team and making informed decisions, will get us there.

The Root of It Commentary…………………………………….

image001The New Technologies have Increased your Clinical Liability!

Last week we discussed clinical product liability. This week you need to think about clinical liability. It’s not about what you didn’t see; it’s about what you could have seen! My YouTube Channel feature this week is on malpractice and the simple everyday routines that can lead you into the path of an on-coming train.

Medical history up-dates are important and mandatory protocol for all dental offices, but you can’t just rely on the patient volunteering information. The YouTube video gives a perfect example; however, I have seen the scenario all too often. A very close dentist friend of mine told me a similar story. A patient in her mid-60’s came in for a scheduled procedure and was asked to fill out another medical up-date even though she was in 3 weeks prior was an exam. She was wearing sandals and when she sat in the chair, the doc noticed she had a bandage on her right heel. The doc asked what happened and the patient replied that she was at the medical doctor’s office for a small procedure. The doc then asked if the medical doctor prescribed any medication. The answer was “a blood thinner”. The doc asked why she didn’t note that on the medical history up-date? The patient response was “I didn’t think it was important becauseI am only going to be taking it for another week”.

Moral of the story…..ASK QUESTIONS! Don’t assume the patient understands.

The Office Manager Blog:………………………………………

Three core components when transitioning to electronic health records!

image001

Today’s dental practices are feeling the push to go paperless from the media, salespeople, advertisers, peers, and our government. There are seminars, webinars, and publications telling us what products to buy and why their product is better … but is it better for you? There is no set standard on how to go paperless. Yes, we have a couple compliance issues with HIPAA and PCI, but other than that we are pretty much making decisions on our own. Pretty scary, huh? There are, however, three core components that need to be included in your decision-making process, whether you are purchasing new software or buying a printer . . . Efficiency, Consistency, and Security. When I am hired to help an office transition from paper charts to a paperless environment, these are the staples that hold everything together. We cannot keep our sanity or rest easily at night if these three things are not met.

Aruba EZ Inventory Control Software………………………..

image006This Week’s User’s Tip! – Missing Invoices & Delivery Tracking Reports!

You need to reduce sending and Aruba can help. By utilizing the “Alternate Product Report” you can find generic products that are manufactured by name brand companies. As an example, Blue Moose by Parkell will have an alternate product called Blu-Bite @ a savings of over $10.00/box. Henry Schein has a satisfaction guarantee on all products, so trying an alternate is a no loose opportunity.

Here is how you do it…At the top left corner, click on Reports. Then use the scroll down tab in the middle of the screen to find “Alternate Products”. After you click on the button, look at the bottom of the screen for the PDF button and click. It is that easy…

The Aruba inventory management system will save you time and money and reduce your inventory carrying costs. That results in increased cash flow. For more information on the “free” Aruba Inventory Management Software, please feel free to contact me at any time @ 201-321-7494 or cliff.marsh@henryschein.com

In today’s economic climate we all know that cosmetic dentistry is down. The Componeer system and technique for creating same day veneers can reduce the patient’s cost by as much as 50% with some of the cost possibly being covered by the patient’s dental insurance (codes will be provided).

Dr. Nash will take you through the process and explain in detail why this unique and innovative process is more advanced and out performs the old “Lumeneer Style” process and puts the dentist in control.

image005    “Doctor Oz Show” features sensationalistic segment on dental amalgam”

March 28, 2013, ADA News staff

“The Dr. Oz Show” aired a segment March 28 which may alarm dental patients about the safety of dental amalgam, the ADA said today in an Issues Alert emailed to its members.

The nationally syndicated daytime health talk show is hosted by cardiothoracic surgeon Mehmet Oz, M.D.

Although the show’s producer contacted the ADA for information beforehand, repeated offers by the Association to arrange an interview with an ADA spokesperson dentist were declined, the ADA said.

The producer would only accept written statements from the ADA, which were provided. These statements are posted on the Doctor Oz show website. The ADA has also issued a press statement about the show.

Final Thoughts for a Better World

From 3 Very Wise Men….

“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country”

John F. Kennedy

“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”

Ronald Reagan

“I have spoken of a thousand points of light, of all the community organizations that are spread like stars throughout the Nation, doing good. I will go to the people and the programs that are the brighter points of light, and I will ask every member of my government to become involved. The old ideas are new again because they are not old, they are timeless: duty, sacrifice, commitment, and a patriotism that finds its expression in taking part and pitching in.”
