image001  How Can Dental Sleep Medicine Improve Your Practice?

Did you read the articles? Did you take the course? Did you try to implement? Did it go anywhere? It probably didn’t because you didn’t understand how to use the program to improve your practice. At the seminars you are told how much money you could make fabricating OSA oral appliances and that the patient’s medical insurance would cover the cost. What you’re not told is how to handle the treatment plan when the patient has a high deductible. With the introduction of the ACA (Obama Care) these issues will popup more often. So, how do you continue to use the program for a positive effect on your practice?

Providing advanced diagnostic services is the new world of dentistry. So what do you do when you screen a patient for OSA and the patient refuses home testing or if they do the test and OSA is present but they have a high deductible so the appliance will not be covered? You don’t want the patient to think you are pushing for a cash procedure so back into the problem.

“Ok Mr. Smith, I completely understand what you are saying. However, you have a condition that may affect your overall health somewhere down the line, so with your permission, I would like to forward these test results to your primary care physician so they are aware of our concerns”

Your office now forwards a copy of the report via registered mail with a return receipt request to the patient’s primary care. The receipt is recorded in the patient’s chart. When the primary care receives the report, they will address it with the patient. Upon the patient’s re-care visit to your office you can ask if they spoke to their primary care about the ramifications & treatment of OSA. Mr. Smith’s response will most likely be “Yes, they prescribed a CPAP”. You can then inquire, “That’s good, and how’s it working out for you?” You see, there is an 80% non-compliance with CPAP. Now the patient is in your pipeline for treatment planning. Also, the primary care knows that you can treat their non-compliant patients. Start thinking outside the box!

The world’s first and only truly universal adhesive in a unit dose delivery system

VOCO introduces Futurabond U, the world’s first and only true universal adhesive in a unit dose delivery system.  Futurabond U’s two main advantages as identified by VOCO are first its universal indications for all adhesive procedures without the need of any additional activators or primers and second Futurabond U’s ability to prevent solvent evaporation a well-documented challenge for adhesives dispensed in a bottle.

Futurabond U’s versatility allows it to be used in self-, selective- or total etch mode without any additional primers or activators on virtually all substrates.  Futurabond U achieves total-etch bond strength levels with all light- self- and dual-cure resin based composites, cements and core build up materials. As a dual-cure adhesive Futurabond U will self-cure without any light activation which offers a big advantage for endodontic applications such as post cementation where it avoids the pooling effect, a problem with light cured adhesives. Futurabond U also adheres well to metal, zirconia and ceramic making extra primers unnecessary.

Futurabond U comes in a patented unit dose delivery system that prevents the solvent from evaporating. This ensures reliable and predictable results with each application. Thus the first bond will be as good as the last bond out of the box. VOCO states Futurabond U’s unit dose is priced the same as or less than the bottle systems of other brands.

Futurabond U needs only one coat and takes 35 second from start to finish. Its low film thickness of only 9 microns makes bonding margins invisible (i.e. no “halo” effect) and prevents pooling problems. Additionally the material does not need to be refrigerated.

Further Futurabond U benefits include its indication as a desensitizer for use under amalgam restorations or on hypersensitive tooth necks, as a protective varnish for glass ionomers as well as an intraoral repair of ceramic restorations.

Project MATER: How Disney Improved the Customer Experience for Retail Guests at the Magic Kingdom Park!

October 22, 2013 by Bruce Jones, Programming Director, Disney Institute
Disney is always striving to improve the customer experience, or what we might call the “Guest experience.” Be it an attraction, a technology, or a process, the continuous improvement cycle exists to ensure that enhancing the experience for our Guests is never sedentary.

This was recently the case when the Emporium team at the Magic Kingdom Park worked hand-in-hand with the Merchandise Line of Business team to elevate the retail experience for Guests. This became known as Project MATER, Mastering All The Elements of Retail.
The process started with a clearly stated and measurable goal: increase the efficiency of operational systems and processes and further the Guest shopping experience. To achieve that goal, Disney focused on three distinct areas:

image005  ADA comments on Senate dental bill!

October 25, 2013 By Craig Palmer, ADA News staff

Washington—The Association “cannot support” dental legislation offered in the Senate and referred to the Finance Committee but commended Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., “for your efforts to address our nation’s dental crisis and help break down the barriers that prevent millions of Americans from receiving regular dental care.”
“Access to dental care is a multifaceted problem and we appreciate that the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2013 recognizes this and that no single solution will eliminate it,” the Association told Sen. Sanders, sponsor of S. 1522, in a letter commenting on access, coverage, education, research and workforce provisions in the bill.
The letter includes ADA comments on provisions relating to Medicaid, Medicare, the National Health Service Corps, community health centers, dental clinics, dental education, hospital emergency rooms, research funding, mobile dental services, residency programs, student loans and federal dental services including the Indian Health Service, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense and Federal Bureau of Prisons.
